Kharchenko (BiQuad) antenna calculator
About
This calculator works out the dimensions of a Kharchenko antenna (the zigzag BiQuad antenna). The Kharchenko is a high-gain directional antenna consisting of two square loops and a metal reflector. It is widely used for Wi-Fi, GSM, LTE and other applications.

Notes
- Standard frequencies: pick one from the list of common frequencies or enter your own by hand.
- Input impedance: the standard values of 50 Ω and 75 Ω are supported.
- Units: results can be shown in millimetres, centimetres or metres.
- Frequency range: the calculator is optimised for the 400–3000 MHz range.
- Reflector: made from sheet metal or fine metal mesh.
- Loop material: use copper wire of the appropriate diameter (see the AWG size).
- Build accuracy: to achieve the best performance, keep to the calculated dimensions within ±1 mm.
- Feed: the coaxial cable connects at the centre of the lower loop, keeping to the calculated gap.
- Polarisation: the antenna is linearly polarised in the plane of the loops.
- Gain: typical gain is 10–12 dBi depending on frequency and build quality.
- Radiation pattern: the beamwidth is roughly 60–70 degrees.
- Assembly: the reflector must sit at exactly the calculated distance from the plane of the loops.
